Most people in Pakistan first meet a smart curtain at a relative's house or in a hotel room — a curtain that opens by itself, or moves when you press a button. The name sounds high-tech, but the idea is simple. This guide is for anyone who has never bought one and just wants to know where to start.
What a smart curtain actually is
A smart curtain is an ordinary curtain on a motorised track — the same fabric, but a motor at one end opens and closes it by remote, app or voice instead of by hand.
You are not buying a special kind of curtain. You are buying the motor and the track, and your curtain hangs on it as normal. The only difference is how you open and close it.
How you control it
Depending on the motor, you can open and close the curtain with a handheld remote, a wall switch, your phone through an app, or your voice through Alexa or Google Home. Most of our customers start with the remote — it is the closest thing to what they already know — and move to the phone app once they see how easy it is.
Which motor should you start with?
For most homes the Tuya GE82TY is the right first motor. It handles up to 50 kg of curtain with a remote, WiFi and voice control; you only need a heavier motor for very heavy curtains or very wide windows.
That is the honest summary. The Tuya GE82TY smart curtain motor covers the large majority of bedrooms, lounges and dining rooms. You only need to look at the heavier motors if your curtains are unusually heavy or your window is very wide — the Dooya DT52E handles up to 100 kg, and the Dooya DT72TV is for hotels, villas and large projects.
What it costs
The motor is priced by track length: PKR 28,000 for 5 feet, 30,000 for 10 feet, 32,000 for 15 feet and 34,000 for 20 feet, plus a flat PKR 3,000 installation. A 10-foot window is PKR 33,000 all in.
The price is the same whichever motor you choose — you are paying for the track length, not the motor model. There is nothing after that total: no delivery charge, no visit fee, no surprise extras. The full breakdown is on our pricing page.
Does it work during load shedding?
While the power is off the motor will not move, but you can still pull the curtain by hand without damaging it, and it keeps its positions so nothing resets when the power returns.
That manual hand-draw matters more here than in most markets. Every motor we supply is designed to be pulled by hand, and the limit settings survive a power cut. You will not come home to a curtain that has forgotten its positions.
Do you need a special curtain?
No. The fabric is ordinary curtain fabric — what changes is the track behind it and the motor at one end. You can usually keep your existing curtain, though the track itself gets replaced.
The motor and the track are one system, so the track gets replaced even when the fabric carries over. Whether your existing curtain transfers cleanly depends on how it was stitched — the quickest answer is to send us a photo on WhatsApp.
